Artwork Competition

Purpose of rules—These rules are to govern the 2010 Nebraska Horse Expo Artwork Competition.

Prize: The winning artwork will be featured as the cover for the 2010 Nebraska Horse Expo Program book and information regarding the artist will be included within the Program book.  In addition, the image may be used for the 2010 Expo T-shirts and the winner will receive free booth rental equal to one 10×10 booth for the 2010 Nebraska Horse Expo.

Contest deadlines—The contest officially ends at 11:59 pm CT on January 15, 2010. Entry forms can be downloaded online at www.nebraskahorsecouncil.org, or may be requested by contacting or by calling (402) 290-9076.  

Contest eligibility— This contest is open to vendors exhibiting at the 2010 Nebraska Horse Expo and relatives of members of the contest judging panel are not eligible to participate.

Criteria for judging— Entries will be judged based on the following four categories:

  1. Suitability for Program Cover and T-Shirt Design
  2. Originality / Creativity
  3. Artistic Composition and Color
  4. The degree to which it conveys “The Spirit of the Horse”

Entries will be judged on a one to ten scale based on the criteria set forth in these rules. Awards will be determined based on the highest average score.

Entries will be processed when received. No judging preference will be given based on the date of receipt.  The winner will be notified by February 1, 2010, and the winning entry will be posted to the Nebraska Horse Council website.

Technical requirements for design or entry—The size of the image submitted must be 8” x 10”, 300 dpi and either JPG or PDF formats.  Image layout must be vertical.  The original work may be rendered in any medium or size desired by the contestant.

Suggestions for best results: the photo taken of the original should be 10 megapixels or higher and the original should be at least ½ again larger for the best reproduction image.

Restrictions on subject matter of entry—The design must be the entrant’s original creation and may not be copied or duplicated from previously published art, including photographs. The winning artist may be required to make minor changes to his/her design such as image sizing.

Failure to comply with contest rules—Any entry which fails to comply with any of the requirements of these rules will be disqualified from the contest and will not be considered by the judging panel.

Entries—All entries submitted will become the property of The Nebraska Horse Expo and will not be returned to the contestant, and the contestant shall not be entitled to, nor receive any compensation for the submission unless the contestant is selected as the winner, in which case compensation will be limited to the prize as specified in the rules.  The Nebraska Horse Expo will have full rights to use the artwork, as well as information submitted by contestants, in whole or in part for media informational purposes. In the event that a contestant is chosen as the winner, the applicant authorizes The Nebraska Horse Expo the use of his or her picture(s), likeness, name and other information set forth in the entry form and agrees to take part in personal interviews for publicity purposes including magazine and newspaper publications, electronic media, broadcasting, advertising and promotional initiatives.

The Nebraska Horse Expo may, at its sole discretion and for whatever reason, choose to cancel the contest at any time.
